DeSoto ISD’s Curtistene S. McCowan Middle School and Fine Arts Academy is celebrating two of its students, Oscar Ramirez-Cabrera (8th grade, Alto Saxophone) and Collette Rogers (8th grade, Tuba) who earned coveted spots in the prestigious Texas Music Education Association Region 20 Middle School All-Region Band.
These talented young musicians competed on Saturday, November 16, at Duncanville High School and demonstrated extraordinary skill and determination throughout the process.
The auditions were no easy feat, with over 1,000 students from Lake Highlands, Richardson ISD, Duncanville ISD, Red Oak ISD, Highland Park, Irving ISD, Ennis ISD, Dallas ISD, and Waxahachie ISD vying for spots. Each student was required to perform full-range technical scales and two challenging, college-level etudes, showcasing their mastery of tone, technique, and musicality.
Only the top 20 to 30 musicians in each instrument section were selected for this elite honor, and Oscar and Collette rose to the challenge, solidifying their places among the region’s finest middle school musicians.
Both students will participate in the All-Region Band Clinic and Concert, held at Duncanville High School on December 13 and 14. The event culminates in a free concert on December 14, where these outstanding performers will join their peers for an unforgettable musical experience.
Curtistene S. McCowan Middle School and Fine Arts Academy Band Director, Twynette Anderson was overjoyed to see these students excel.
“Oscar and Collette -you are shining examples of the excellence, dedication, and spirit of McCowan Middle School and DeSoto ISD!”
The DeSoto ISD school community is invited to come out and support Oscar, Collette, and all the incredible musicians of the TMEA Region 20 All-Region Band at this celebratory concert.
