DeSoto Independent School District (ISD) hosted its much-anticipated State of the District Address on April 30, 2025, sponsored by the DeSoto Area Chamber and delivered by keynote speaker and district Superintendent Dr. Usamah Rodgers. The event, themed “Constructing the Future,” took place in front of a packed audience of staff, family, friends, and community stakeholders, highlighting the district’s growth, challenges, and bold vision for the future.

Introduced by student emcees representing the DeSoto High School’s Class of 2025 Josiah Walker and Riley Parker, Dr. Rodgers opened the event by reflecting on the district’s rich history and progress over the years. The superintendent emphasized the importance of building on the solid foundation laid by past generations, highlighting the achievements of alumni who have gone on to impact various fields. A video showcasing success stories from DeSoto ISD alumni set the stage for a discussion of the district's present state and future aspirations.

The Past: A Foundation of Excellence

Through targeted efforts in College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR), the district has made impressive gains, including substantial increases in college enrollment, workforce certifications, and academic performance. Dr. Rodgers highlighted the district’s success in programs like i-Ready, which have shown significant improvements in student math and reading scores.

The district remains a powerhouse in Texas, producing athletes who not only excel in high school but also continue to thrive at the collegiate and professional levels noting the upcoming appearance of the DeSoto High School boys’ track team at this year’s state meet.

Looking Ahead: Building Tomorrow, Together
