DeSoto ISD Launches 2025–26 School Year with Powerful Convocation and Call to Action

DeSoto Independent School District officially launched the 2025–26
academic year with its annual convocation ceremony, setting a powerful and
inspirational tone for the months ahead. Held earlier today, the event brought
together educators, staff and district leaders in a celebration marked by
unity, joy and a renewed sense of purpose.
Hosted by legendary radio personality Lady Jade, the convocation was
electric with energy as the DeSoto ISD community gathered under this year’s
districtwide theme: Constructing Our Future. The event served as a
rallying point for the district’s mission to continue building a stronger
educational environment for all scholars.

Superintendent Dr. Usamah Rodgers delivered a rousing keynote address,
reflecting on the challenges the district has faced in recent years and the
resilience that carried DeSoto ISD through those difficult times.
“We’ve overcome storms, uncertainty and hard decisions—but today, we
stand taller and more united than ever,” Dr. Rodgers said. “This year, we are
not just returning to work—we are building the future of our schools, one
scholar at a time.”
The event concluded on a powerful and emotional note with a live
performance and appearance by renowned gospel artist Marvin Sapp, whose message
of faith and perseverance left attendees uplifted and inspired.

As the district embarks on a new school year, DeSoto ISD remains
committed to creating an environment rooted in academic excellence, community
collaboration and student success. The 2025 convocation was not just a
celebration; it was a call to action.
With hard hats on and hearts full, DeSoto ISD is ready to build what’s
next.
