DeSoto ISD kicked off the new academic year with hands-on,
engaging instruction as students participated in a Biology STEM Camp hosted in
partnership with Texas Instruments. During the camp, students explored
coding and robotics by programming rovers using TI-Nspire™ calculators,
applying technology to scientific concepts in creative and interactive ways.
The experience, designed to spark curiosity and strengthen
problem-solving skills, reflects the district’s commitment to offering
meaningful, real-world learning opportunities from day one of the school year.
“This was such an exciting way for our students to begin the
school year,” said Raisha Allen, DeSoto ISD STEM Coordinator. “By
combining biology concepts with coding and robotics, our students were able to
see the power of STEM in action while developing critical thinking skills that
will serve them well in and beyond the classroom.”
DeSoto ISD’s instructional leadership emphasized the
importance of creating engaging learning opportunities from the very start of
the academic journey.
“As a district, we are committed to ensuring that every day
of learning counts—beginning with the first,” said Stephanie McCloud, DeSoto
ISD Chief Academic Officer. “Partnerships like this with Texas Instruments
not only enrich our instruction but also demonstrate to our students that their
education is connected to the wider world of innovation and possibility.”
The camp marks an early highlight in DeSoto ISD’s efforts to
provide students with innovative, hands-on experiences that align with the
district’s mission to prepare all learners to thrive academically, socially,
and personally.
