Woodridge Fine Arts and Gifted Academy to Perform at City of DeSoto’s 4th Annual Artist Lab Showcase Festival

Scholars from DeSoto ISD’s DeSoto High School Choir and
Woodridge Fine Arts and Gifted Academy will take center stage at the City of
DeSoto’s 4th Annual DeSoto Artist Lab (DAL) Showcase Festival on Saturday,
September 20, 2025, at DeSoto Town Center.
The free, family-friendly festival highlights creativity and
culture across the community, and this year, DeSoto High School’s choir will
perform under the direction of Nae Callihan and the Woodridge scholars
will contribute through a featured performance by the Woodridge Performance
Choir, directed by Vickie Johnson, the school’s Band, Choir, and
Music teacher.
“Our students are so excited to share their love of music
with the larger community,” said Johnson. “Opportunities like this show our
scholars that their hard work and creativity matter outside the classroom.
Performing at a citywide festival gives them an invaluable experience of using
their gifts to inspire others.”
Both choir groups will perform on the outdoor Amphitheater
stage joining a lineup that includes Spanish dance by Daniel de Cordoba, spoken
word by Alex Tha Great and King Shakur, music from saxophonist Alex Allen and
cellist Najeeb Sabour, and more.
“This performance is a wonderful way for our scholars to
shine and for our community to see the talent being nurtured right here in
DeSoto ISD,” said Demitree Tatum, Principal of Woodridge Fine Arts and
Gifted Academy. “The arts are a vital part of the learning experience at
Woodridge, and we’re proud that our students have this platform to showcase
their abilities.”
The festival will also feature headliner Taylor Morgan
at 3:30 p.m., followed by encore performances and a special showcase inside the
Corner Theatre at 5 p.m. with additional music, spoken word, and a finale by
Percussion Things.
Beyond performances, attendees can enjoy local arts and
crafts vendors, food, interactive art activities for children, and
opportunities to connect with DeSoto creatives and leaders.
