DeSoto Independent School District (DISD) is proud to join
districts across the nation in celebrating Inclusive Schools Week from
December 5 to December 9, an annual observance highlighting the progress
schools have made in providing supportive, high-quality education to students
of all backgrounds and abilities. The week also serves as an opportunity for
schools and communities to recommit to strengthening inclusive practices that
ensure every child feels welcomed, valued, and empowered.
Inclusive Schools Week celebrates the transformative impact
of inclusion—embracing learners with diverse abilities, cultures, languages,
and learning needs—and encourages school communities to reflect on practices
that promote belonging for all students.
“At DeSoto ISD, inclusion is not just a practice; it is a
promise we make to our scholars and their families,” said Stephanie Fuller,
Executive Director of Special Populations. “Inclusive Schools Week gives us
a moment to recognize the intentional work our teams do each day to create
environments where all students are seen, supported, and celebrated. We are
committed to ensuring that every scholar has access to the tools and services
they need to thrive.”
DeSoto ISD continues to enhance its Special Education
services through evidence-based supports, collaborative planning, and ongoing
professional development for educators. This work reflects the district’s
broader commitment to equitable learning experiences tailored to the unique
strengths and needs of each scholar.
“Providing high-quality, inclusive education requires
thoughtful planning, meaningful collaboration, and a districtwide belief that
every student can succeed,” said Stephanie McCloud, Chief Academic Officer.
“This week underscores how our educators work intentionally to support each
learner—particularly those receiving Special Education services—with
compassion, expertise, and high expectations.”
Throughout Inclusive Schools Week, campuses across DeSoto
ISD will participate in activities designed to promote respect, belonging, and
understanding. These activities aim to deepen students’ awareness of diverse
learning needs while highlighting the importance of empathy, acceptance, and
community.
“Our commitment to inclusivity is central to who we are as a
district,” said Dr. Usmaah Rodgers, Superintendent of Schools. “As we
observe Inclusive Schools Week, we honor the families who entrust us with their
children, the staff who serve with purpose, and the scholars who inspire us
with their resilience and brilliance. DeSoto ISD is dedicated to ensuring that
every learner—regardless of ability, background, or need—feels supported and
empowered to achieve greatness.”
