DeSoto Independent School District campuses will host student performance-focused programs as part of the district’s observance of Black History Month.

Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today. As the observance has evolved, emphasis has been placed on the pre-slavery history of Black people in America as well as the legacy of innovation, resilience, and advancement set forth by people of African descent in America.

Parents and community members are welcome to attend the upcoming campus-based events but must go through campus visitation protocols which include checking in at the campus’ main office, undergoing a background check via the Raptor System, and other such requirements prior to entering district schools.
