During the week of Jan. 30 - Feb. 3, 2023, DeSoto Independent School District, along with the surrounding school district closed campuses and district offices for the safety of our school community amid inclement or wintry weather conditions. Due to this safety adjustment, students and staff lost some required classroom seat time or instructional minutes that can not be adjusted by using a waiver from the Texas Education Agency.
Therefore, to reclaim these required minutes, the DeSoto ISD leaders are making these adjustments to its current 22-23 Board approved calendar.
- March 10 is no longer an early release day for students, it is now a full district school day.
- April 10 is no longer an inclement weather/district holiday, it is now a full district day.
- May 24 was a full day for elementary campuses and an early release day for secondary campuses, it is now a full day for all district students and staff.
- May 25 is no longer an early release day for all students, it is an early release day for secondary students only
These minor amendments to the current school calendar will allow the district staff to meet its required seat time without extending the school year.
DeSoto ISD is aware that this communication may require some personal scheduling adjustments for our families and is sharing this information to ensure that our families have ample time to prepare for this shift in our calendar dates.
For your reference, the current DeSoto ISD 2022-23 academic calendar has been revised to reflect this update.
In addition to these changes, we want to remind the school community of the following:
- Feb. 16-17: Student holidays/ District Professional Development Days
- Feb. 20: District Holiday ( Campuses and Offices Closed)
- March 13-17: Spring Break Week (Campuses and Offices Closed)
